I have a 10yo who is full of ideas and story lines but has the hardest time just getting those ideas down on paper. I would like to know of some of the reading and writing programs that are out there to help dyslexic kids. The teacher has been allowing him to use PhotoBooth on the Mac at school to get his ideas down for his journals and it seems to be working for him. He says it`s easier that way.

I know there are alot of programs out there but I just wanted to hear from you what kind of successes you`ve had with the program you took on. Would you be kind enough to share some of that with me here. There just maybe someone else out there who may be asking the same question and so we can all learn something from this.

Thanks alot and would appreciate any information given.

Thanks so much Drs Fernette and Brock Eide!

We are going to try Read2Go and bookshare to see how the reading goes. Our 10yo, enjoys reading, though it tires him out so easily. We will look at the Writing as you suggested.

Thanks a lot for your help and for all you do with our gifted Dyslexics.

Many students also benefit by a template-based reading program - like Step Up to Writing (Step Up to Writing - Anchorage Schools) or the latest update to Co-Writer from Don Johnston.

Many benefit from being explicitly taught transition words that help connect and relate complex ideas (words like 'however, moreover, consequently" etc).

What a great idea, Photo Booth. We know of many studies who are such cinematic thinkers that pictures and images are much better to organize their thoughts than working first through words. For these types of thinkers, talking over writing, sketching out or storyboarding ideas might be the most natural way to organize thoughts before adding words at a later step. Some like Kidspiration or other mindmaps - some use powerpoints and collect pictures first, adding words later.
