Dyslexic Creator of The Onion - Newspaper Parody

Yes it's true. The Onion, a parody news organization was the brain child of Tim Keck when he was an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin.

"Pounding away on a rented Apple 2C, he learned that his dyslexia — "My writing was almost illegible. If you had picked up my blue books, you'd say, 'This guy is an idiot' " — faded at the keyboard. "It was a blast and very successful right off the bat," Keck remembers. "Everyone read it"...the publication remained a Midwestern secret until 1996, when it launched its site and instantly gained international recognition. One headline in particular, "Clinton Deploys Vowels to Bosnia: Cities of Sjlbvdnzv, Grzny to Be First Recipients," got the site the kind of attention you can't pay for. The spoof was passed around the Net like a virus, and the guys at NPR's Car Talk also picked up the story and read it on the air in its entirety. The Onion's reputation was made."

The Onion currently has 7.5 unique visitors per month.

Tim is also a very successful businessman... "Tim just has an ability to see into the future and forecast what will happen..."

Keck's success highlights dyslexic strengths in humor and satire (word play, flipped perspectives, pattern) as well as gifts in marketing, communication, and business.
