When my son was diagnosed with dyslexia she told me that he had this Long term Visual Auditory Memory deficit and explained that "what is seen works against what is heard." My son had to write his name in "the book" at school because he wasn't following along in the social studies book while another child was reading. I felt like this was an example of this and that, being social studies I would rather him listen and comprehend what the other child was reading because when my son actually tries to read along he spends his time trying so hard to follow along that he doesn't even know what was read. Social Studies seemed like a subject where the comprehension seemed more important than following along and I wish that the teacher would save that type of reading for a story book. I hate that he was punished for what I felt like was "listening". How else does this Long Term Visual Auditory Memory affect a dyslexic's life? Any other examples? My son has been back in school 7 days and already is ready to go back to home schooling. It is sad that these children must choose between their self esteem and being with the other kids.
