My four year old, whom I suspect has stealth dyslexia (as I do) will be staring violin lessons in January. Are there any things I should be on the look out for? His instructor uses the Suzuki method which I like, since it doesn't start with reading notes and is more on learning by hearing (which should be an advantage for him).
Just would love to any advice from others whom have dyslexic young children learning to play an instrument.

Hi Doresa,

Just to add our clinic's experience - many children and adults of all ages are gifted musicians - including several violinists, a cellist, and several guitarists. Instruments in which the hands are rotated in different planes are often easier / more natural for dyslexics - the mirror image piano is more difficult - at least so many have told us...although that can be recommended for 'therapeutic' purposes, most dyslexics we know who pursue music at a very high / professional level end up not choosing the piano as their primary instrument.

A number of the dyslexics in our clinic seem to have perfect pitch too.
